Most of the current design and manufacturing processes for automotive components lack flexibility and require a long time from CAD to physical part. Moreover, they present a series of limitations on geometry, for example, which translates into inefficiencies.
BlueThink carried out a Technology Scouting project to increase the strength of additive manufactured structural components. Starting from the required performances, the team scouted different powders and combined them with specific process settings as well as heat treatments.
This innovative approach unlocks many constraints typical of the current processes as well as speeding up the design and manufacturing of parts. This translates into shorter development loops, optimised components and, lower development and production costs.
